Little Red

Wearing: Thrifted dress and Rubi platforms.
The week I had been pining for vintage 1970s prairie dresses, I snag this beauty for $8. I forgot how much I love thrifting, but with very limited room in my closet it's not something I can indulge in as often as I'd like. Considering I've been giving my room the once over, listing things on eBay and sending them off to new happy homes I can forgive myself for the misdemeanor. Have you ever wondered what my voice sounds like? Probably not. Well if you DID you can check out this new video where I talk more about my outfit and the creepy Little Red Riding doll I am holding there. Very rarely do I find an item of clothing which fits in so perfectly with the narrative of my life, and well, I guess it just has to be fate.
ALSO, not neglecting my love for little gems, this is technically the first rock in my rock collection. I found it on the playground in grade school, mistook it for blue jelly stepped on it quite firmly to feel a satisfying squish beneath my shoes. Only it didn't go smoosh. To this day I still have no idea what it is, despite four years of university. The art behind it is from Australian Vogue featuring Anna Plunkett, one half of my very favourite designing duo Romance Was Born. She is the lady electric.

Australia Day Celebrations
I’ve recently been asked by the team at Farfetch to enter their Australia Day Celebrations Style Challenge – i.e. what I could wear when celebrating Australia Day given a gargantuan budget. Generally, I celebrate surrounded by friends and family with a good old-fashioned barbecue drinking beer or a few glasses of red. I'd love to one day be able to celebrate on the Sydney Harbor watching the boats and ferries in Circular Quay (but I currently live in Melbourne).
Roberto Capucci bootcut trousers, Filu Hats 'Chamonix' hat, Ruifier 'Visage Midnight Star' ring, Marni floral earrings, Givenchy buckled ankle boots, Roberto Cavalli sheer blouse, Alexander Wang runway clutch, Shaun Leane hook bracelet.

Another Australia Day tradition is listening to the radio as the nation counts down the hottest 100 songs of last year in the Triple J Hottest 100. Triple J is a government-funded radio station, with really nothing else like it in the world. It plays some of the best music and was hugely informative during my teen years. Listening to Triple J throughout the day removes the stress of having to create the perfect party playlist and gives you the chance to reminisce on the best songs of last year. Congratulations to The Rubens on their #1 winning song, Hoops!
What could be better than a day filled with good food, good friends and great music?

XXXXXXXXXL by Sisi Liu

Liu has created intricate tulle shells embellished with satin sashes and pom poms to give form to luscious flowers. XXXXXXXXXL (yes that's spelt correctly) is an interesting take on what plus size fashion could look like. What Liu gives us here is an exciting alternative where clothes cover the body and models are left swimming in a sea of pastel coloured fabric. This collection should not be confused with designers which actually celebrate plus size women, considering that the models used were stick thin- all this banter is just my interpretation. Also, I read something online a couple of days ago pointing out that in womens fashion we differentiate between petite, plus size and average, whereas in mens fashion they just have menswear but a larger range of sizes. That says more about the values we project onto female bodies more than anything else, and possibly how that needs to change but plus size has already gained such momentum now I can't see the term losing steam. Still, the clothes are absolutely gorgeous and if at any point I wanted to cover most of my body in intricate swaths of fabric, this would be it.

Frolicking with Fungi
By some weird, wonderful accident I stumbled across this video featuring clothing designed by Russian sweetheart Lesia Paramonova for her namesake label LES' on the day I started emailing an academic from a university in Germany. In his research group are a few awesome women who study fungi trapped in amber. Honestly, I've been feeling so lost and dreadful since I finished my honours so for these two events to happen on the same day feels like a sign. Or at the very least, seeing LES' continue to incorporate designs borrowing from the natural world is encouraging.

The Times They Are A-Changin'
SOOO I got a haircut-- and my mum laughed in my face for five minutes like a was a zoo animal. I was with the boyfriend at the time in the city and he didn't recognise me but he's been a lot more supportive and nice about it! I gotta admit, it's short but I feel slightly closer to joining a Tumblr witch coven so that's always a plus. Plus I get to wear hats now without there being a huge weird gap of no hair, like this beaut from Meadham Kirchhoff's Marie Antoinette inspired collection. Disclaimer: I thought I was being totally original and witchy when I put this outfit together, then I realised I was sharing Lydia Deetz's brain.
